Launch of the Van Don International Airport

Construction on Van Don International Airport started in 2015 on 288 hectares in Van Don District, Quang Ninh Province. It is the first airport in Viet Nam to operate under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model at a cost of VND 7.46 trillion. Van Don is designed to be a grade 4E airport in accordance with ICAO standards and a military airfield level 2.

The airport contains one single runway, one passenger terminal with a capacity of handling 2.5 million passengers and 10,000 cargo tons per year in the first phase by 2020. This airport is capable of catering for Boeing 787, 777 and Airbus A350, A320.

Van Don Air Traffic Control Tower is 43 meters high and fully equipped and modernized with all CNS systems such as VHF, VCCS, Recording, Standard time system, VSAT, ADS - B and monitor screen of ATM system.

Van Don Air Traffic Control Tower

The Viet Nam Air Traffic Management (VATM) is responsible for providing air navigation services for flights landing to and taking off from Van Don international airport. These services include: aerodromes control services, flight information services, alerting services, aeronautical information services, meteorological services, signalman services and CNS services.

The first commercial flight operated by Vietnam Airlines B787 from Tan Son Nhat international airport landed at Van Don international airport on the date of the airport inauguration.
